The school was built in 1865 at a total cost of £833. It was used as a place as
worship until the church was erected thirteen years later.
Improvements and subsequent extensions were added to the school which was built by
subscription to cater for the needs long felt by the inhabitants of the populous
district of Newhey and the Haugh.
The church was an off shoot from Milnrow Parish Church and the first Anglican services in
Newhey were conducted by clergy from that church in the school building.
